Three Sisters Garden Planting Events​

In partnership with Gun Lake Tribe (GLT), a Three Sisters Garden will be planted in Bronson Park over the course of three dates. 

 

The public is welcome to attend. Experience and learn the traditions of this indigenous agricultural practice and the importance of companion planting.

Saturday, May 23, 11 am - The first in the series of plantings is Mdamenek (corn) by GLT Youth.

​

Saturday, May 30, 11 am - The second in the series of plantings is Kosman (squash).

​

Saturday, July 18, 11 am - The third in the series of plantings is Kotthesek (beans). The corn has to be tall enough for the pole beans to climb.

Since Time Immemorial Talk at Ladies Library: Gzigmezék mine Giknamezo Zibé (Kalamazoo and the Kalamazoo River)

Thursday, July 23, 6:30 pm - Lakota Hobia, Tribal Historic Preservation Officer for the Match-E-Be-Nash-She-Wish Band of Pottawatomi Indians (also known as the Gun Lake Tribe), will be joining Kalamazoo in Bloom at the Ladies' Library Association to present on the Tribe's collaborations related to Gzigmezék (past Pottawatomi village and present-day Kalamazoo) and Giknamezo zibé (Kalamazoo River). Included in her presentation will be the Three Sisters Garden project located in Bronson Park, a collaboration specifically with Kalamazoo in Bloom. A reception with light refreshments will follow the presentation. The public is welcome to attend this free event. Limited seats available.​​​​​​
